In order to access greater funding from the Italian SSN (National Health Service), the constituent regions must fulfil specific requirements in the provision of Essential Levels of Assistance (LEA). The LEA Committee must periodically monitor the suitability and proficiency in the provision of healthcare services.
Thanks to the Colorectal Screening Project, the Puglia region earned 30 points, exceeding the critical threshold and rising from level 155 four years ago to 185 today.
“The regions that obtain scores below 160 show various critical issues, particularly in preventative medicine (screening and vaccination coverage) and in social care (elderly and disabled residential care).”

This project, carried out in collaboration with Dedalus, is aimed at citizens who are over the age of 50. Local pharmacies distribute a special kit to collect samples and send them to the laboratories for testing. Those with a cancer diagnosis will proceed with treatment while a personalised follow-up pathway is provided to those with an inconclusive diagnosis.
The Colorectal Screening project is part of the Puglia region SCRAP project, a collaboration between Dedalus’ clinical and diagnostics solutions in order to create a care pathway management system integrating:
- Patient Medical Records
- Patient Healthcare Portal
- Centralised appointment reservation system
- General Practitioners
A highly-integrated project that will become D4 compliant in 2020
The project currently encompasses:
- 6 local health authorities
- 1,160,000 patients
- 250 pharmacies
- 25 digestive endoscopy services
- 6 laboratories
- 6 anatomical pathologies
- about 15 surgery departments
Monthly output projection when fully operational:
- 60,000 invitations
- at least 12,000 laboratory tests
- at least 1,000 colonoscopy exams
- at least 400 anatomical pathology reports for polypectomies or biopsies
- about 50 surgeries
